Arm Yourself With The Facts About Deep Vein Thrombosis
This condition appears when a blood clot forms in one of our deep veins, most commonly but not necessarily, in the legs. DVT is, for the most part, under-reported. The newly diagnosed numbers for affected individuals may be as high as 900,000 people in the United States or approximately two persons out of every 1,000 each year. As many as 100,000 Americans die each year from a venous thromboembolism related event. Death is not the only outcome. At least one-half with DVT will have long-term complications such as repeated swelling, pain, skin discoloration, and scaling in the affected limb. Once you have had DVT, you are predisposed to have repeat occurrences within a ten-year period. The good news is you can do something about it starting today!
