Key lime pie is a popular Florida food because you can grow just about anything citrus in your yard when you live there. I lived in Florida for about eight years, and never tried key lime anything. Shame on me! The first time I ever tried a key lime was two days ago… and in Wisconsin. Go figure.
Key limes actually taste quite a bit different than regular limes; they are more aromatic and fruity tasting. Key limes smell heavenly when you grate them! They are definitely worth buying when you come across them, and I can tell you it won’t be often unless you live in or near Florida. While key limes are great, it will actually take some lemon-lime Karbolyn to really make this recipe POP! The Karbolyn works with the key lime flavor to make the most mouthwatering and refreshing protein shake ever!
Ingredients:
- 1 scoop vanilla EFX Sports Pure Whey
- 1 tsp. lemon-lime Karbolyn Hydrate
- 2 oz. Low-fat cream cheese
- 1 packet of stevia sweetener
- Juice of 3 key limes
- Zest of 3 key limes
- ½ tsp xanthan gum, if desired (a gluten-free thickener)
- 1 cup water
- Ice cubes
Directions:
Chop the limes you zested in half and squeeze them. I squeeze them by hand because they are really small. It doesn’t look like much juice, but it’s strong and you will have enough flavor from 3 limes. Add all of the other ingredients and blend until it looks blended. Then, taste it to see if it’s to your liking. If it’s not, add what you think it needs—more lime, more sweetener, more Karbolyn Hydrate, etc. Now it should have the perfect Florida flavor and nutrition to make you want to throw on that bathing suit and take a dive in the nearest pool!
