Recently I had a request from a lover of all things lemon to make a lemon protein shake. I like lemon a great deal, but it can be very tricky to get right. While I love lemon Italian ices & gelato, I’m not a big fan of bitter tasting things. Lemon baking extract tastes too fake to me to put into a protein shake, and real lemon can pucker your face.
I knew I had to use real lemon juice—but how much? That’s up to you—I will give you a taste range that’s easy to customize to your very own taste buds. Some people like to be punched in the face with mouth-puckering lemony-ness, while some prefer when it tastes faint and mixed with creamy vanilla. I guess I’m kind-of a Wuss that way, as I prefer the latter.
Oh, and by the way, I added an ingredient that is an anti-inflammatory to cure the ‘pain-in-the-neck’ when life gives you lemons (that was corny…sorry). Turmeric is a popular anti-inflammatory that will also make your shake more yellow in color without using food coloring. When life gives you lemons—make this delicious ‘summer-like’ protein shake!
Ingredients:
- 1 scoop vanilla EFX Pure Whey
- ½ cup cold water
- Ice cubes as desired
- 1/8-1/4 tsp. turmeric
- 1 packet of stevia
- 2 tbsp. Greek Yogurt
- 3 Tbsp. Lemon Juice: 1 tbsp. = hard to taste the lemon at all; 2 tbsp. = you can just about taste it; 3 tbsp. pretty darn lemony; 4 tbsp. = ridiculously lemony; 5 tbsp. = face puckering.
Directions:
Stick all of the stuff in the blender except the lemon juice and blend. Now add 1 tbsp. lemon juice, taste, add another and taste, until you get it the way you want it. Easy as that!
