You will see most people talking about their pre-workout drinks. But, what drink would actually help you recover from the beating you just gave yourself in the gym or on the field?

Your muscles have some pretty specific post-training needs. First, they could really use a nice flood of branched chain amino acids now rather than whey protein, which needs to be digested. Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) don’t need to be digested and are readily available to the body. During intense periods of training, your body makes stress hormones that will break down muscle tissue when those levels get too high. Branch chain amino acids will help keep these stress hormones in check and help prevent that hard earned muscle tissue from degrading. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, and proteins are the building blocks of life—so if you are building yourself, then these supplements are exquisitely helpful. I would even go as far as to say they are crucial!

Second, your muscles run on a fuel called glycogen. After a hard training session, that glycogen gets spent like a group of drunken teenagers having a night on the town with their dad’s credit cards.
