Protein Hot Chocolate

  • Yield:1 serving

Hot chocolate is one of the staples of comfort in the winter. To be without it is simply to be…without. Last week I was chilled to the bone. I really, really, REALLY wanted something hot. The EFX Sports Training Ground Isolate in chocolate flavor was sitting on the counter, beckoning softy. “Try me! What have you got to lose?” Really, what did I have to lose? Could one really make hot chocolate with protein powder? So I did. I really did…

The result, for all intents and purposes, was so close to actual hot chocolate I couldn’t tell the difference at all! It was even a little foamy on top, just like hot chocolate. The only thing missing from it was the dirty feeling that sugar leaves on my teeth (and on my thighs… and in my heart…). I’ve actually had this for about 6 meals since that first fateful cup a few days ago! Mouthwatering is a glaring understatement. It is DECADENT, yet so INNOCENT! Honestly, I cannot tell you how pleased I am right now. This is my goal with food. Easy, delicious, clean, and healthy all rolled into one, minus the guilt.

You can make it one of two ways; the easy way or the pretty way. It can be a meal fit for a competition diet or a gorgeous and totally naughty looking slight-cheat to warm up a chilly date night. I will share both with you!

The No-Cheat Easy Way:

Ingredients:

  • 1 scoop of EFX Sports chocolate Isolate
  • 1 cup of water or unsweetened almond milk (+ 30 calories for the almond milk)
  • 1 stevia packet

Directions:

Put a scoop of EFX Sports chocolate Isolate in a mug and stir in water until all lumps are gone. Microwave it for 30 seconds-1 minute (depending on your microwave). Enjoy this totally guilt-free treat that will make you feel warm, but you won’t feel dirty!

The Slight Cheating Way:

Ingredients:

  • 1 scoop of EFX Sports chocolate Isolate
  • 1 cup of water or unsweetened almond milk (+ 30 calories for the almond milk)
  • Sugar-free chocolate syrup
  • 1 tbsp. unsweetened light creamer of choice; dairy or non-dairy
  • Chocolate shavings from a dark chocolate bar+
  • 1 stevia packet
  • Whipped cream (I found whipped cream made from coconut oil in a health food store!)

Directions:

Put a scoop of EFX Sports chocolate Isolate in a mug and stir in water until all lumps are gone. Microwave it for 30 seconds-1 minute & ten seconds (depending on your microwave). Get a small plate and pour some sugar-free chocolate syrup on it. Shave some chocolate with a veggie peeler onto another small plate. Dunk the rim of another mug into the chocolate syrup you put on the plate and sprinkle the smaller chocolate shavings over it until they stick on the syrup.

Pour the finished hot chocolate drink into the dipped mug being careful not to let it splash onto the dipped part. Add the whipped cream and sprinkle dark chocolate shavings onto that. The calories I calculated are approximate and will depend on the type of creamer and whipped cream you use. While this is a slight cheat, it’s still low carb, and you are getting great quality protein!
