Ask The Trainer #67 – Beating Fatigue

Hi, Chad. Which supplement can I take to overcome my tiredness, due to working a lot?

Hi, Paul. I’m gonna hit this from a couple of different angles here. I could just throw a quick fix supplement at you to take that would give you an immediate boost.

However, I don’t feel right about doing that because sometimes the quick fixes can exacerbate an underlying issue that’s triggering the fatigue problem in the first place.

I’ve Been There

There have been challenging time periods in my life when I was forced to work long days while running on very little sleep. I battled fatigue all day long. However, when it was time for me to go to sleep, I’d be wide awake all night until my alarm clock went off. At that point, I would start the same miserable cycle all over again!

During these time periods, I would do what I had to do to get through the day. I was drinking several servings of a pre-workout product per day, and lots of Kre-Alkalyn Hardcore. Now, these energy supplements do work, and I feel they serve a very valuable purpose when used responsibly.

But… I want to emphasize there’s a MAJOR difference between use and abuse. In my case, I was definitely abusing. Inadvertently, I was making my problem worse by over stimulating my adrenal glands, which ultimately lead to adrenal fatigue.

Adrenal Glands

The primary function of your adrenal glands is to help your body cope with various forms of stress. That means everything from physical activity, to disease, infections, emotional stress, chemicals, etc. Your energy, resilience, endurance, and ability to live your life depends upon your adrenal glands functioning properly.

When the adrenal glands become overworked, this results in a condition known as adrenal fatigue, where your entire body is constantly in a state of exhaustion. This will make anyone feel lousy!

Your adrenal glands secrete over 50 different hormones. The most notable among these hormones are glucocorticoids, adrenaline, and mineralocorticoids. Moreover, these hormones are essential to your ability to react and cope with various forms of stress. It’s normal and also necessary for these hormones to spike for limited time periods. However, when they are elevated constantly, longer than your natural biology intended them to be, it disrupts and impairs the function of your adrenal glands.

Adrenal Fatigue

The most common causes of adrenal fatigue include Over-exercising, emotional stress, sleep deprivation, stimulant abuse, toxic exposure, nutritional deficiencies, temperature extremes, chronic inflammation, infection, and disease. This can result in a wide range of negative symptoms such as Weakness, fatigue, inability to concentrate, sexual dysfunction, a weakened immune system, depression, sugar cravings, low thyroid output, low testosterone, high blood pressure, cardiovascular stress, insomnia, aches, and pains, and troubling remembering things.

As I mentioned previously, I’m all for using pre-workout supplements and caffeinated beverages in strictly LIMITED amounts. If you don’t feel like you’re experiencing symptoms of adrenal fatigue, then I would recommend using a quality energy supplement, like Kre-Alkalyn Hardcore, to help get you through the day. But, if you do feel like you could be a victim of adrenal fatigue, just remember that too many stimulants can definitely contribute to and magnify your problems.

5 Ways To Restore Adrenal Gland Function

1. Focus On Improving Healthy Sleep Patterns:

Try and get at least 7 hours of sleep each night, if you can. You may find it necessary to use some natural supplements to help combat sleep disturbances. I recommend melatonin, magnesium citrate, lemon balm extract and passion flower.

2. Try To Avoid “Energy” Drinks:

This includes pre-workout drinks, coffee, and other caffeinated beverages, as these increase adrenal fatigue. Instead, you can enhance your natural energy using non-stimulant products like Kre-Alkalyn and Karbolyn. Additionally, natural adaptogens, like ashwagandha and Rhodiola Rosea, can help reduce the negative effects that various forms of stress have on the body, thus helping reduce the strain on the adrenal glands.

3. Try And Avoid Processed Foods And Fast Food:

Instead, try and obtain your nutrition from whole foods that are unprocessed, or at least minimally processed. Include plenty of veggies, fresh meats, nuts, and some fresh fruits. Drink plenty of filtered water between meals to help eliminate toxins and waste products from the body.

4. Take A High Potency Multiple Vitamin/Mineral Supplement:

Products like VitaDrive help ensure ALL of your nutritional bases are covered. Regardless of how clean your diet is, it’s very difficult to obtain optimal levels of micronutrients through diet alone.

5. Avoid Food Products Made From Soy:

Soy contains chemicals called isoflavones that are known as endocrine disruptors. They interfere with proper hormone balance by binding to cell receptors, interfering with your natural hormones binding to them. This disruption can lead to a plethora of unwanted side effects, fatigue being one of the most prominent among them.

Hopefully, these suggestions help resolve your problem. Just remember it can take anywhere from several months to 2 years to make this happen, depending on the severity of the adrenal fatigue. So don’t expect miracles overnight. I wish you all the best of good health and success!
